Family Albums – A Lost Art?

Recently I spent some time observing my Facebook Wall and discovered a really interesting piece by Martin Parr . In the article Martin discusses a generation devoid of Family Albums. I know I’ve thumbed through the Zacharias Family shoebox (ours was a pasta box) of pictures but candidly speaking I don’t have my own shoebox – do you?
To be honest I never really thought about this but Marin’s observation is really accurate and very poignant – our digital generation is just that digital.
Why….”I can always print them later, they are digital….”
Did we just lose that moment in time? Is it a memory lost?
Restore the excitement of the trip to the ‘photo lab’ pick up your ‘summer vacation’ pictures and thumb through them as soon as you jump into the car! Now we might create an online book with captions instead of the photo lab but develop a family album habit – your shoebox legacy will not be forgotten!
Sand Angels!
Just finished a really fun project for Hannah Fenichel Center (Solana Beach) this project was directed by Kirk Van Allyn . I call it ‘Project Sand Angels’ – check out this unique 30 x 40 Giclee Auction Item! Each student participated by creating a unique piece of sand art depicted on the outside edges. The teachers, Kendra & Ashley, were very excited about this project and the creative process was very free flowing! The Canadian in me glows when I see ‘snow angels’ so this project was especially fun for me.
Well the books are closed on the bidding of this piece the “Sand Angels” piece sold for $3200.00!

Selling yourself short….
Recently I’ve been spending considerable hours reading various discussions encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit to hold fast – don’t cave to potential clients questioning your price points unaware of your expertise. ”There’s been a lot of emphasis on big innovation,” says Robin Petravic. “I think a lot of people have forgotten the importance of just doing something simple and doing it well.”
In this excerpt of my blog I would like to focus on what you bring to the table – why people pay for your services, expertise and professionalism.
Initially we all spend many hours determining, via extended research, self worth & market value – to this I say stay the course! Do not underestimate or devalue the time spent looking under each rock developing your product and market value matrix. The new economy is just that new, we adapt, adjust and move forward – the focus on the mark didn’t change the speed at which we arrive did!
Now is not the time to become impatient and doubtful; now is the time be resilient and evolve.
Your worth it and your offerings are too – don’t deviate from your plan – augment and enhance – growth will set you apart from your competition!

You may remember the announcement a few months ago that David “Tyrone” Villa was selected as the featured artist for the 7th Annual San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival. The event lasts from November 17 to 21, 2010. If you are interested seeing his latest work in person, visit his exhibit at the Grand Tasting Event this Saturday, November 20th.
